2. Who was interested in settling them in the Chaco?
  • The Paraguayan government itself was alerted to the fact that it was disputed territory in 1930, and wanted to place colonizers in the Chaco, as a measure to claim it. In addition it was hoped that this vast, sparsely inhabited plain would become economically productive in the future. Bolivia undertook steps also, to claim the settlers that were coming from Europe.
