1. You have had a remarkable economic development. How was this possible?

The principles of cooperative business and the mediation of ethical values through the Church have contributed decisively to create the spirit of solidarity necessary to fight the many difficulties of the first years of settlement. The maxim of “the common benefit goes before the proper benefit” was being practiced as much as possible and helped the settlement to progress. Such progress automatically reflected back on the individual members.

Many public construction projects in the beginning years were being done by the members on a non-payment basis. The general assembly determined a certain number of days per month that every member hat to dedicate to community works. These assignments were called “Scharwerk”.
